UEFA expands women’s Champions League with group stage added

December 5 – UEFA has announced the introduction of a new 16-team group stage for the Women’s Champions League from the 2021-22 season with centralised marketing and TV sales programme raise revenues and the profile of the women’s club game.

November 6 – The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the Football Federation Australia (FFA) and Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) that will close the gender pay gap in the country has been officially announced.

US to host eight-team Women’s Olympic qualifiers

November 6 – The United States will host the 2020 Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament January 28 – February 9. The competition will qualify two teams for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The official draw and host cities announcement will take place this Thursday.

October 31 – Norwegian striker Ada Hegerberg has broken the goalscoring record in the Women’s Champions League, becoming the competition’s all-time top scorer with 53 goals following a brace on Wednesday against Denmark’s Fortuna Hjorring.

October 25 – Budweiser who activated a sponsorship of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the US with its post-World Cup #WontStopWatching campaign to boost attendances and profile of women’s pro clubs and players, has given the league another push forward by challenging other brands to become ‘future’ sponsors.

September 23 – Gianni Infantino says FIFA “cannot wait any more” for women to be allowed into Iranian stadiums to watch men’s matches and that he has been “assured” the authorities will relent when the country hosts its next international match.

TV parity: UK government wants to ‘list’ major women’s events for free broadcast

September 20 – The rapid rise of the women’s game and the profile of the Women’s World Cup has prompted the UK government to call for a number of top tier women’s events to be added to the country’s ‘listed’ sports events that must be broadcast in free-to-air television.
