March 15 – New season new team seems to be the club mantra for playing squads across Europe’s Big 5 leagues, but how successful is this policy in terms of achieving honours and stability? Research by the CIES Football Observatory suggests that changing your team every season will not win you prizes.
March 8 – Bayern Munich could face sanctions after their supporters delayed Tuesday’s Champions League tie at Arsenal by throwing rolls of toilet paper on to the pitch in protest over ticket prices.
February 22 – Chelsea have passed the 8 million mark in twitter followers, third only to Arsenal with 9.2 million and Manchester United with 10.2 million. Looking at the weekly figures Chelsea’s gain was still almost 16,000 behind Arsenal’s 67,400 new followers for the week.
February 21 – Of the 16 teams left in the knockout rounds the Champions League, 86 of the 384 players registered (16 squads of 24 players) graduated to the first team via the academy of that club. However, 26 of those players were playing for different clubs than those that trained them.
February 1 – Manchester United broke the 10 million Twitter follower barrier, while Arsenal moved past 9 million last week. In contrast, at the other end of the table Middlesbrough crept past 200,000 followers and Bournemouth hit 250,000.
January 24 – The weekly growth in Twitter followers to Premier League clubs last week matched the typical pattern with yet another bumper increase for Manchester United of 89,000 followed by Arsenal with 71,000.
January 23 – Arsene Wenger, the longest serving manager in the English Premier League regarded by many as a role model for aspiring coaches, has been charged with physically pushing the fourth official after being sent off in the closing stages of last Sunday’s last-gasp 2-1 win over Burnley.
December 2 – New Instagram followers to Premier League clubs increased again this week, though only marginally to 282,000 from 276,000. There are now more than 42.8 million Instagram followers to Premier League clubs.

November 28 – Growth in new twitter followers this week across the Premier League is up to 0.42% from 0.37% last week – or in real terms from 166,700 to 187,300. Manchester United still top the weekly table but Chelsea are gently showing a return to form and favour after a halving of weekly gains from 12 months ago, due to a drop in form and the unsavoury antics of former manager Jose Mourinho.
October 24 – Five Premier League clubs reported capacities of over 99% and nine over 94.99% in the weekly attendance table. A remarkable attendance rate if everyone had turned up and actually filled those seats. But it is clear in Arsenal’s case that the seats may be bought but not all the fans are bothering to turn up.
October 19 – Arsenal and Chelsea have filled more than 99% of the capacity of their stadium for every Premier League home fixture this season (they have each played four), but for efficiency Stoke topped the weekly stadium capacity table with just 42 unfilled seats and a stadium capacity of 99.85%.

October 3 – Arsenal, the north London club whose French manager Arsène Wenger has just completed an extraordinary 20 years in the hot seat, have reported a sharp downturn in annual profits. The Gunners posted a pre-tax profit of just £2.9 million for the year to 31 May 2016 – down from a restated £18.2 million. Group turnover in the same period rose from £347.3 million to £356.5 million.
September 14 – Manchester United again dominated the Twitter weekly ranking gaining with Arsenal in second place and passing the 8 million total follower mark.
August 7 – With the international break it might be reasonable to assume a drop-off in Twitter activity, and in terms of tweets across the Premier League that was the case with the total number dropping to 2,412 against 6,214 the previous week. But the number of new Twitter followers across the league was up.
August 16 – The Premier league season opened with London clubs Arsenal and Chelsea packing their stadiums with barely a seat in the stadium free. But the league as a whole was on average was down on opening day last season.
