April 16 – Jose Maria Marin, disgraced former president of the Brazil Football Confederation (CBF), has been banned for life by FIFA and fined CHF1 million for taking bribes, 16 months after he was convicted of corruption charges in the United States.

FIFA gives Chiriboga a life ban for bribery and a $1m fine

March 22 – Luis Chiriboga, for 18 years president of Ecuador’s FA and one of those indicted in the US-led crackdown on football corruption, is the latest senior official to bite the dust. FIFA have banned him for life for bribery.

March 14 – Former Guatemala football chief and one-time FIFA executive committee member Rafael Salguero, who avoided a jail term for his role in the FifaGate corruption scandal, has been banned by FIFA for seven years.

February 28 – Former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has been released from prison on bail after 643 days in custody on charges of money laundering. He had been denied bail several times, but a defiant Rosell maintains his innocence.

February 12 – Disgraced former Concacaf president and FIFA vice-president Jeffrey Webb’s sentencing has been delayed for a ninth time. His lawyers sentencing has now been moved back to September 10. Another defendant Alejandro Burzaco has had his sentencing moved back to August 21.

February 8 – Former Guatemalan FA chief Brayan Jimenez has been sentenced to time served and ordered to forfeit $350,000 after pleading guilty for his role in the FIFA corruption scandal.

September 7 – Former Guatemala football chief and one-time FIFA executive committee member Rafael Salguero avoided a jail term when he was sentenced on Thursday to time served, releasing him from house arrest following his role in the FifaGate corruption scandal.

US judge rejects FIFA’s restitution argument awarding just $108k

November 22 – In what will be judged as bitter disappointment for both FIFA and regional confederations Concacaf and Conmebol, a US judge has ruled that they can collectively recoup just $2.63 million from two former officials convicted on bribery charges, a small fraction of the roughly $125 million they had sought.

FifaGate: Li allowed to return to Costa Rica under ‘supervision’

November 14 – Eduardo Li, the former president of the Costa Rican Soccer Federation (FEDEFUTBOL) and one of the original ‘Zurich Seven’ arrested in the FifaGate corruption scandal, is now free to return to his homeland on so-called supervised release after serving nine months in prison and a period on parole.

August 23 – In a landmark verdict six months after he was convicted for his role in the FifaGate scandal, Jose Maria Marin, the former president of Brazil’s football federation who to the last insisted he had done nothing wrong, has been sentenced to four years in jail.
