April 28 – The locations of the Official FIFA Fan Fest venues in the 11 cities hosting Russia 2018 World Cup matches have been announced by the Local Organising Committee. In total the sites will have a combined capacity of 267,000.
Fan Fest sites first debuted at the Germany 2006 World Cup and have been a fixture ever since. They are free-of-charge to enter for both local and visiting football fans, offering an ‘official’ World Cup experience.
Russian organisers have chosen a diverse list of iconic locations for the sites including Sparrow Hills on the right bank of the Moskva River, the famous beach promenade in Sochi and the Family Center in Kazan.
Alexey Sorokin, 2018 FIFA World Cup Local Organising Committee CEO, said: “The FIFA Fan Fest will be the perfect opportunity for each of our host cities to show the world their unique culture and friendly hospitality. These venues will serve as spontaneous and joyful meeting points, from where I am sure fans will take some of their best memories of the amazing event we will host in 2018.”
More than five million attended events at Fan Fests sites in Brazil at the 2014 World Cup – the most iconic site being located on Rio’s Copacabana Beach. If all the Fan Fest sites reach capacity at some point during the day on each of the match days in 2018, then 6.675 million people will have passed through their gates.
