Liverpool expand youth coaching footprint into Kunming, China

April 27 – Premier League Liverpool have announced a youth coaching project in Kunming, the capital city of SW China’s Yunnan province, that will initially provide coaching to a selection of schools.

Organised in partnership with the Kunming Municipal Bureau of Education, the initiative will see Daniel Reece, head coach at the LFC International Academy in Liverpool, relocated to Kunming. He will oversee a combination of player development and education for local coaches – teaching them how to play and coach ‘The Liverpool Way’.

The initial project will last for six months and will focus on coaching of individuals rather than the establishment of teams.

“The project’s mission is to develop the participants both on and off the pitch; encouraging them to get active and improve their football skills, while also improving life skills such as communication, teamwork and leadership,” said a Liverpool press release.

Dan White (pictured right), head of the LFC International Academies, who has been responsible for driving the Liverpool training and education expansion in overseas markets said: “We consistently apply the same coaching principles on all our programmes. So, when a player plays here at the LFC International Academy in Kunming, they will be coached in exactly the same way as our players in Liverpool.”
