December 7 – The San Francisco 49ers American Football team reportedly have “a deal in place” to buy English Premier League club Leeds United.

The investment arm of the NFL franchise, 49ers Enterprises, increased their stake in Leeds to 44% in November and now apparently have an option to take full ownership worth in excess of £500 million.

Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani remains the majority shareholder but reports say it is expected the 49ers will take control before January 2024.

Leeds are currently 14th in the Premier League after 15 games, having finished ninth last season in their first season back in the top flight since 2003-04.

Leeds vice-chairman Paraag Marathe, president of 49ers Enterprises, told the BBC in May that the 49ers’ plans were “pure” and promised to make Leeds “one of the biggest clubs in the world”.
