FA spurred to issue warning over use of Yid term

September 10 – The English FA are discouraging the use of the word ‘yid’ which derives from the Yiddish word for Jew, but which has been used in a derogatory and offensive way by anti-Semites. Despite the word’s origin and its use as a badge of honour by Tottenham fans, the FA has said it “is likely to be considered offensive by the reasonable observer.”

Man Utd look to open up Indian sub-continent, others will follow

August 27 – India could represent the next major market for the world’s leading clubs to promote themselves, according to Manchester United who have just signed a three-year partnership with high-performance manufacturers Apollo Tyres Ltd. Last week’s high-profile announcement between the two parties was one of the first initiatives between an Indian multinational and a global football brand and United’s group managing director Richard Arnold says it could act as a precedent for rivals to follow.

Spurs and Hammers look east to build sponsor roster

August 20 – Tottenham have announced a deal with Asian insurance company AIA, which sees the North London club continue to have separate short sponsors for the Premier League and Cup competitons, whilst East London’s West Ham extends its partnership with international mobile operator Lycamobile.
