September 17 – Safaricom, which has over 29.5 million subscribers in Kenya to a variety of telecoms services including ‘mobile money’, has partnered with Spain’s LaLiga focusing on grassroots football.
September 11 – Landmark proposals to play a top-flight Spanish league game in the USA has taken another twist with reports that the players will have the final say.
September 5 – Spain’s La Liga is pushing ahead with its plans to take a regular season match to the US with media reports saying the first overseas game will be an all-Catalonian affair between giants FC Barcelona and Girona at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on January 27 next year.

August 23 – Plans to stage a landmark top-flight La Liga fixture in the United States have prompted fierce opposition by Spain’s footballers union which has not ruled out going on strike, blasting the idea as based only on “money and business”.

August 16 – LaLiga are planning to play a regular season league game in the US under a joint venture signed with Relevent, the sports and entertainment group that runs the International Champions Cup pre-season tournament.
August 7 – Sports agency IMG is launching itself into the broadcast market in Scandinavia with its own OTT channel Strive, that will broadcast Spain’s LaLiga and Italy’s Serie A exclusively live.
August 3 – British online bookmaker Bet365 has snapped up half of LaLiga’s top division clubs in two-year sponsorship deals starting with the coming season which kicks off this weekend with the Spanish Super Cup between Barcelona and Sevilla being hosted in Morocco.
July 10 – Reports are that Facebook has snapped up its second major European league with a live TV rights deal with LaLiga for the Indian subcontinent.
July 5 – Betway appears to be mopping up shirt sponsor deals in LaLiga. Deportivo Alavés has become the European bookmaker’s third Spanish club in a two-year deal.
July 4 – Amazon looks set to make another foray into the domestic European TV rights market, being rumoured to in line pick up the remaining rights packages for Spain’s LaLiga.
June 26 – Spain’s La Liga has sold its 2019-2022 television rights for €980 million ($1.15 billion) per season to Telefonica, an increase of 15% on the last three seasons.
June 15 – LaLiga has Chinese automobile brand Dongfeng Fengguang as the Official China Regional Automobile Sponsor of LaLiga for the 2018-19 season.
May 30 – Maltese-based bookmaker ManBetX has become LaLiga’s official betting partner for Asia in a multi-million Euro three-year deal that will begin with the new season this September.
May 3 – LaLiga is moving from Pay TV to OTT (over the top) in the UK after the Spanish league refused to accept an offer from Sky less than the £18 million a year deal paid in the previous cycle.
