October 10 – European Champions Real Madrid, armed with a glittering roster of high-value talent headlined by Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham, have been crowned as the most valuable squad in world football in the latest CIES Football Observatory data report.
October 20 – Erling Haaland (€196 million) is worth €28 million more than to Kylian Mbappé (€ 168 million) while Manchester City have the highest squad value in world football (€1.2 billion).
September 14 – Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City have been revealed as having the most expensive squads in world football, rounding out an exclusive billion-euro club with PSG, according to the latest report by the CIES football observatory.
August 15 – Of the 14 promoted clubs starting the new season in Europe’s Big 5 leagues, the promoted Premier League clubs have a combined squad value of more than double the other leagues.
July 15 – Kylian Mbappé has returned to the top of a ranking of the most valuable players in the world, with an astonishing market value of €230 million. This is more than €80 million more than the Manchester City duo Erling Haaland (€143 million) and Phil Foden (€140 million).
October 8 – Manchester’s two Premier League giants top a European ranking of highest squad transfer values, with both United and City worth more than €1.2 billion. Their nearest rival is Chelsea who are more than €200m behind them with an estimated squad value of €946 million.
July 2 – If the Euros was to be decided by the average market value of players in each of the squad, the England are nailed on winners and Spain would be runners-up of they weren’t in the same side of the draw.
An analysis by the KPMG Football Benchmark team finds that the average value of an England player is €57.8 million. The least valuable players in the quarter finals are Ukrainian – who face England’s next – with an average value of just €6.6 million.
April 23 – Manchester City top a ranking of clubs with the most valuable squads by transfer value, ahead of local rivals Manchester United and Chelsea and more than twice the value of PSG.
October 29 – KPMG Football Benchmark have updated their player valuation tool that shows since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic the aggregate value of the 500 most valuable football players has decreased by 10.3%. But, there are signs of recovery.
October 21 – With the uncertainty surrounding club revenues in domestic leagues, particularly around match day revenue, clubs that have qualified for the UEFA Champions League will be grateful for the relative the financial stability that competition brings.
June 25 – The financial effect of the coronavirus pandemic on football has hit revenues and values, not least in the player transfer market, with the overall market value being predicted to drop 20-25%.

May 6 – The impact of the coronavirus on football’s transfer market is going to be seismic in terms of player value with one analysis calculating a decrease in total player value across 10 of Europe’s leading leagues of between €6.6 billion and €10 billion, depending on whether the season restarts or is cancelled.
March 18 – Liverpool has the most valuable squad by transfer value at €1.4 billion, according to a ranking by the CIES Football Observatory.
June 11 – The CIES Football Observatory has ranked teams participating in the Russia 2018 World Cup by their transfer values. Top of the table are France with a total squad value of €1.41 billion.
June 12 – Neymar has the highest transfer value in the world at €210.7 million, according to latest data. Tottenham’s Dele Alli is second placed, €55 million less than Neymar at €155.1 million, but worth €1.5 million than third placed teammate Harry Kane. Both are ahead of Lionel Messi who is valued at €151.7 million. Messi topped the list in 2016 with a €211.1 million transfer valuation.
