Arsenal ponder Emirates expansion to 70,000

October 8 – Arsenal are the latest Premier League club to consider a stadium expansion. The Gunners are exploring ways to increase the Emirates Stadium’s 60,700 capacity to around 70,000, a development that would restore its claim as London’s largest football ground and tweak the noses of their North London rivals, Spurs, and the futuristic Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Man Utd ditch “circus tent” design for stadium

September 30 – Manchester United’s epic vision of a new Old Trafford is already experiencing the kinds of problems that often hit mega stadium projects. The ambitious design unveiled earlier this year by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and world-renowned architect Sir Norman Foster complete with what looked like a vast canopy that critics likened to a circus tent (highly appropriate for the current team’s on-pitch performance) is being quietly redrawn.
