February 12 – European Champions League football will be broadcast via football website Goal’s Twitter account in six markets in Asia with a mix of live matches and highlights packages.
September 28 – Premier League Everton are launching two new social media platforms focused on content for American Evertonians. @EvertoninUSA will being posting content on both Twitter and Instagram starting today.
June 27 – Mexico are leading the social media World Cup with more than 9 million interactions since the start, according to social media marketing platform Socialbakers. That is a whopping 2.5 million interactions ahead of second place Germany.
April 17 – UEFA has condemned the online abuse aimed at referee Michael Oliver and his wife after the English referee awarded a highly contentious stoppage-time penalty to Real Madrid that knocked Juventus out of the Champions League last week.

January 18 – The social media profiles of Europe’s top clubs are spawning a whole new growth area and fan base for Europe’s biggest clubs, but none are getting close to the dominance of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United who between them now connected with a staggering 391 million people on Twitter and Facebook.
December 18 – Talk about a faux pas. France’s much-touted Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has apologised after initially telling his social media followers to “calm down” in response to an outpouring of protest about racism when he painted himself black.
August 23 – Cristiano Ronaldo has reacted furiously to his five-game ban for pushing a referee being upheld by Spain’s administrative sports court.
May 24 – Manchester United convincingly topped the Twitter growth stats for the 2016-17 season putting on more than 2 million followers over the season. Arsenal also increased their Twitter followers more than 2 million while another two clubs – Chelsea and Manchester City – had increases of more than 1 million over the season.
May 9 – Arsenal surged closer to matching Manchester United’s weekly Twitter growth this week with 52,000 new followers compared to Manchester United’s 59,500 – a timely gain matched with a rare win against them in the league. Just as Man Utd’s players are fatiguing after a long season, is the phenomenal growth rate on Twitter doing the same?
April 25 – Newcastle United’s re-ascent to the Premier League will immediately catapult the club into ninth place in the Premier League social media rankings, but is it a position that perhaps reflects the under achievement of what is undoubtedly one of England’s most passionately supported clubs?
April 11 – Manchester United broke their own impressive Twitter record this week putting on a massive 95,700 new followers, a weekly record for this season. It was also another good week for Chelsea who continued their weekly twitter dominance of Arsenal with their own season record 67.200 new followers.
March 21- Liverpool became the fourth Premier League club to break through the 7 million Twitter follower barrier this week. They put on 27,100 new followers for the week.
March 15 – The past week has been a good one for growth in Twitter followers to Premier League clubs. Manchester United topped the weekly growth stats again with 70,500 new followers compared to 59,200 the previous week.
March 10 – Manchester City continue to dominate growth on Facebook with 133,600 new Facebook likes this week – a 0.57% growth. This is 55,000 more new likes than local rivals Manchester United who grew by 78,780.
