Concacaf says it is time for analysis, not ‘fearmongering’, over biennial WC proposal

September 24 – Concacaf has said that it “recognises the merits” of FIFA’s plan to create a new international match calendar – which would include a biennial World Cup – and that it will look at the proposals with an “open mind” and “positive engagement”.

September 6 – This summer’s Gold Cup winners USA have stumbled in their start to their Qatar 2022 qualifying campaign managing only draw in their two opening fixtures. In contrast Gold Cup and Nations League runners up Mexico have opened with two wins.

August 25 – The US Department of Justice has agreed to hand over $201 million of ‘remission’ money to FIFA, Concacaf and Conmebol from the amount collected from corrupt administrators in the FifaGate scandal.

US snatch Gold Cup from Mexico in an extra time Las Vegas thriller

August 2 – They say that lightening doesn’t strike twice but in Concacaf it does. Having lost the Nations League final to the US in early June by a goal scored in extra time, Mexico relinquished their Gold Cup title by a goal in extra time scored by Miles Robinson with just three minutes left on the clock.

July 25 – The US and Jamaica renewed a rivalry that has seen the two nations face each other in the last three Gold Cup stages. The US made it a third win in a row tonight in a quarter final that made up for in intensity what it lacked at times in quality.
