July 21 – Chinese telecommunications specialist Huawei has unveiled its first Arsenal smartphone as part of a multi-million pound sponsorship deal that was signed in January and will see the brand as the Official Smartphone Partner of the north London club until the end of season 2015/16.

July 14 – Manchester United and Adidas have agreed the biggest ever deal in sports licensing history as the German sportswear giant will sponsor the United kit as technical sponsor and dual branded licensing partner. The deal is for a minimum of £75 million ($128 million) a year for the next ten years, beginning with the 2015-2016 season.

Neighbouring Premier League club West Bromwich Albion has seen ownership control shift further to chairman Jeremy Peace, while mercurial sports entrepreneur Barry Hearn has sold his League 2 club Leyton Orient to Italian businessman Francesco Becchetti.

Wages still powering ahead in top tiers of English club football

June 5 – Not for the first time, wage growth is casting a shadow over English club football’s financial performance. The latest issue of Deloitte’s Annual Review of Football Finance, covering the 2012-13 season, has found that the widely-watched wage:turnover ratio of the 20 Premier League clubs reached a record high of 71%. This was after wages rose by an enviable 8% to £1.8 billion.
