By Abdelaziz Abuhamar

January 20 – Oman’s captain Ahmed Kanu missed a penalty after 2 minutes, 24 seconds from the starting whistle, in his country’s 2-0 defeat against Iran in the round 16 encounter in the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in ~Abu Dhabi. Iran passed through to the quarter final.

Statistics show that Kanu’s penalty is the fastest-ever missed one in the history of the competition. It is also the second fastest penalty in the Asian Cup.

Akinori Nishizawa of Japan needed 3 minutes an 59 seconds to miss the fastest penalty in Japan’s 8-1 victory over Uzbekistan in Asian Cup 2000. The record has now been beaten by Kanu’s ever-fast missed penalty, after only 2 minutes & 24 seconds.

According to #mundial11, Park Lee-Chun of South Korea netted successfully the fastest goal from penalty in the Asian Cup, in Korea’s 2-1 defeat against Kuwait 1972 Asian Cup in Thailand.
